All-steel katar
Full Description:
A highly unusual and elegantly simple katar dagger from 18th century, Rajasthan, India. Of all steel construction, it has a feature that I have not seen before in the very many Bikaner katars I have seen over the years - a single octagonally faceted hand grip. The grip is chunky, which matches the proportions of the dagger, relatively short and heavy. It bears markings stippled on either sidebar and on the central grip. Showing that it was once in the Bikaner armoury. The blade has a heavy armour piercing tip and the central panels on both sides of the blade show that the steel is wootz.
Mounted on a custom-made metal stand.
