Keris with beras wutah (scattered rice) pamor
Full Description:
A beautiful 18thC keris in the Banjarmasin style, with a blade from Java Kartasura. The dapur (blade shape) is known as parung sari with pamor (blade pattern) of beras wutah (scattered rice) The hilt has a wrangka (boat shaped throat piece) in the gayaman iras style in trembolo wood. The hilt of a type known as nunggak semi with banjar motifs in darkened kemuning wood. The mendak (the ring between hilt and blade) is double layered with a cup fitted fitted directly to the hilt both in silver with the cup mounted with quartz crystals.
Often the original intention that the keris has magical and spiritual qualities is ignored, and the keris just considered an object or a weapon. In honour of the traditions of the keris and the empu (talented smiths) who made them, I would like to note what each pamor represents. Here pamor beras wutah (spilled rice) aids in spiritual and material wealth.
