Full Description:
A polychrome papier-mâché ritual mask, assuming Zam the young, or Zam the old, both are divinities intervening at the Choskor festival beside the death heads (Kiengpa) or of the ‘defied’ form of King Jeipuh intervening in the Yak dance.
In this example he is baring fangs and has enflamed facial hair, a snub nose, bulging eyes, and is surmounted with a single large skull. For closely related examples, depicting different emotional affects, see Pannier, p.54-57, no’s 5, 6 and 7.
